Updates and going back
Steel OS keeps itself up to date, and always keeps the version before.
How updates work
- Every Tuesday morning, Steel OS downloads the new version in the background. If the computer was off, it does it at the next start.
- The new version starts the next time you restart. Nothing changes while you are working.
- Your apps update themselves too.
Update now
Open the Steel OS Portal, then Welcome, then Update now. When it finishes, restart.
Going back to the previous version
If something looks wrong after an update:
- Restart the computer.
- When the menu appears at start-up, pick the second entry. That is the version you had before.
- Steel OS starts as it was. Your files, settings and apps are untouched.
Or from the Portal: Troubleshoot, then Roll back to the previous Steel OS version.
Which version am I on?
System Settings, About this System. For the full detail, open the terminal (Super+Enter) and type sudo bootc status.
